W01 Reflection:

There were so many points that stood out to me this week during the videos and readings.  I found something useful and inspiring in every video and article I read.  I always love the videos and talks about how important it is to do what you love.  I found it interesting while watching the video of Guy Kawasaki when he said you can be miserable and poor but you can also end up being miserable and rich.  I found that I could relate to this in my families life.  My husband and I live in Southern California with our four children and we were so tired of the hustle so we sold everything and traveled.  My husband found a remote job that paid less and we lived our RV for the year traveling all of the United States.  We had less, we owned less, but we were so much happier!

My favorite video so far has to be the one of Gordon B Hinckley.  He holds a special place in my heart, as he was the prophet when I first joined the church.  Although that video was taken from 2002, I still feel that those words apply to use in these days.  It is so inspiring to hear his words even long after they are said.  He has such high standards for those that he was speaking to.  I feel it is the same with our Heavenly Father because He has such high standards for us as well.  All of the words that he speaks are so plain and simple, and yet so powerful.  I love how Gordon B Hinckley states that it is ordinary people who do great things.  We have the same tools that so many others do, we just need to put our talents and tools to work.  I'm looking forward to growing and becoming a better person through my studies during this Summer Session.

W05 Reflection

What really stood out to me this week was regarding the boat story.    Taylor Richards didn’t listen to anyone who told him he couldn’t do something.  He seemed very humble because he was honored to be in the top 100, thought he would have ended up in the 70s or 80s, and ended up 11 th out of 100 in the whole of North America.  During the whole count down of businesses, by the time they got lower into the numbers, he was almost certain that they had forgotten about them.  The next year they were ranked 6 th out of 100 businesses.  I love how humble Taylor was.  He brings up the point that he is a regular person.  I am constantly reminded during this class of a quote by Gordon B Hinckley Quotes where he says, “The major work of the world is not done by geniuses. W03 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

A Hero’s Journey Takeaways I loved the video of “A Hero’s Journey”.  I’m not sure the name of the speaker, but a lot of things stood out to me.  I love the advice and insights from older people.  They have been through so much and have so many wise thoughts that are sometimes shared with us.  I find myself being friends with those who are 55 years and older in my ward, instead of people in my own age group.  I learn so much through them.  We are all sent here for a reason, and do we know what that reason is?  I know in my Patriarchal Blessing it tells me to seek out those things that I am passionate about and to seek through learning what my talents are.  “The Hero’s Journey is all about you, but it’s not about you at all.”  I found that sentence to be thought provoking.  I have one child who is very self-consumed.  We are always telling him, “it’s not all about you”.  So, with that said, my ears perked up and I was interested ...
