W07 Reflection Final Post

·        If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share? If I had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what I have learned from this course, I would share how important it is to keep your feet firm on the ground and to be humble and enjoy the journey.  We don’t always need to look at the end goal or the end results.  The most important parts of our lives are in the small day to day tasks.  Don’t wait for the success and happiness that is waiting for you in the future.  There is not one arrival, there are many and many throughout our daily lives.  There isn’t an end of learning; it’s a continuous process.  Serve people around you and learn what you need to in order to contribute to society.  ·        What would be your last bit of advice to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey? My last...

What resonated with me during this weeks study was the talk by Thomas S Monson entitled “An Attitude of Gratitude”.  I always tend to lead towards the talks by general authorities because they are always so powerful.  What I loved about this talk was when he spoke about being grateful for parents.  One reason being was because of my life and where it stands right now.  My oldest two are at the teenager stage and it is much, much different than the age when they were just cute little babies or toddlers.  When Thomas S Monson was speaking about mothers he said, “Mother, who willingly made that personal journey into the valley of the shadow of death to take us by the hand and introduce us to birth – even to mortal life – deserves our undying gratitude.  One write summed up our love for mother when he declared, ‘God could not be everywhere, and so He gave us mothers.’”  Not only did I think of my mother, but I thought of being a mother to my children at th...

·        Based on what you read in the first two pages (pages 3 and 4), why are virtue and integrity so vital to an economy?   Virtue and integrity are vital to an economy because they are both based off of truth.  When you have virtue and integrity, you are more honest and hold higher standards.  I tend to disagree with a lot of what Charles Handy said in the first two pages.  My Dad is from Scotland, my Mom is from England, and all of my siblings were born in both of those countries as well.  I am the first in the family to have been born in America.  My parents immigrated here because of the job opportunity here.  He earned the highest degree in education he could at Strathclyde University and he couldn’t pass up the opportunities that arose from America.  They never looked back and have now been here for over 35 years.    ·        According to Charles Handy, what is the “rea...

What really stood out to me this week was regarding the boat story.    Taylor Richards didn’t listen to anyone who told him he couldn’t do something.  He seemed very humble because he was honored to be in the top 100, thought he would have ended up in the 70s or 80s, and ended up 11 th out of 100 in the whole of North America.  During the whole count down of businesses, by the time they got lower into the numbers, he was almost certain that they had forgotten about them.  The next year they were ranked 6 th out of 100 businesses.  I love how humble Taylor was.  He brings up the point that he is a regular person.  I am constantly reminded during this class of a quote by Gordon B Hinckley Quotes where he says, “The major work of the world is not done by geniuses. It is done by ordinary people, with balance in their lives, who have learned to work in an extraordinary manner.”  Richards was an example of this because he pointed out that he is a...

·        Which of the 7 habits has the most meaning for you? For now, the habit of being proactive has the most meaning for me.  I have really learned how much better it is to be proactive in my life instead of reactive.  With all that I have going on, being proactive and studying and getting things done early is a much better result for me than to leave things until last minute and cram everything in.  As I have mentioned before, I am studying for a securities license, while taking college classes, working full time and spending time with my family.  I get overwhelmed with my securities studying because a lot of it is new to me.  I have been in the finance industry for years, so I am familiar with it, but getting down to the nitty gritty is sometimes overwhelming.  I find myself studying up until the wee hours of the morning.  I’m studying for the securities license about four hours a day and I am still behind in my sched...

W03 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

A Hero’s Journey Takeaways I loved the video of “A Hero’s Journey”.  I’m not sure the name of the speaker, but a lot of things stood out to me.  I love the advice and insights from older people.  They have been through so much and have so many wise thoughts that are sometimes shared with us.  I find myself being friends with those who are 55 years and older in my ward, instead of people in my own age group.  I learn so much through them.  We are all sent here for a reason, and do we know what that reason is?  I know in my Patriarchal Blessing it tells me to seek out those things that I am passionate about and to seek through learning what my talents are.  “The Hero’s Journey is all about you, but it’s not about you at all.”  I found that sentence to be thought provoking.  I have one child who is very self-consumed.  We are always telling him, “it’s not all about you”.  So, with that said, my ears perked up and I was interested ...

W02 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

What did you learn from the W02 Study: Honesty & Business Ethics and W02 Study: How Will You Measure Your Life readings and videos? What I learned from the Honestly & Business Ethics reading this week was how important it is to be a storyteller.  I find this true in my work life as my boss relates everything to a story.  When he does this, he catches everybody’s attention and I often find myself repeating the story and remembering the details years later.  I do not like public speaking like my boss does, nor do I like having everybody’s attention on me while trying to explain everything.  This is something that I will need to work on and improve.  What really stood out to me about story telling was the fact that Heavenly Father uses story telling to teach us.  Christ also spoke in parables.  It is obviously a great trait to have.  What also stood out to me was the video by Sharon Mays.  She says that we need to, “either do it or stop ...
