W05 Reflection

What really stood out to me this week was regarding the boat story.    Taylor Richards didn’t listen to anyone who told him he couldn’t do something.  He seemed very humble because he was honored to be in the top 100, thought he would have ended up in the 70s or 80s, and ended up 11 th out of 100 in the whole of North America.  During the whole count down of businesses, by the time they got lower into the numbers, he was almost certain that they had forgotten about them.  The next year they were ranked 6 th out of 100 businesses.  I love how humble Taylor was.  He brings up the point that he is a regular person.  I am constantly reminded during this class of a quote by Gordon B Hinckley Quotes where he says, “The major work of the world is not done by geniuses. It is done by ordinary people, with balance in their lives, who have learned to work in an extraordinary manner.”  Richards was an example of this because he pointed out that he is a...

W04 Reflection

·        Which of the 7 habits has the most meaning for you? For now, the habit of being proactive has the most meaning for me.  I have really learned how much better it is to be proactive in my life instead of reactive.  With all that I have going on, being proactive and studying and getting things done early is a much better result for me than to leave things until last minute and cram everything in.  As I have mentioned before, I am studying for a securities license, while taking college classes, working full time and spending time with my family.  I get overwhelmed with my securities studying because a lot of it is new to me.  I have been in the finance industry for years, so I am familiar with it, but getting down to the nitty gritty is sometimes overwhelming.  I find myself studying up until the wee hours of the morning.  I’m studying for the securities license about four hours a day and I am still behind in my sched...

W03 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

A Hero’s Journey Takeaways I loved the video of “A Hero’s Journey”.  I’m not sure the name of the speaker, but a lot of things stood out to me.  I love the advice and insights from older people.  They have been through so much and have so many wise thoughts that are sometimes shared with us.  I find myself being friends with those who are 55 years and older in my ward, instead of people in my own age group.  I learn so much through them.  We are all sent here for a reason, and do we know what that reason is?  I know in my Patriarchal Blessing it tells me to seek out those things that I am passionate about and to seek through learning what my talents are.  “The Hero’s Journey is all about you, but it’s not about you at all.”  I found that sentence to be thought provoking.  I have one child who is very self-consumed.  We are always telling him, “it’s not all about you”.  So, with that said, my ears perked up and I was interested ...

W02 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

What did you learn from the W02 Study: Honesty & Business Ethics and W02 Study: How Will You Measure Your Life readings and videos? What I learned from the Honestly & Business Ethics reading this week was how important it is to be a storyteller.  I find this true in my work life as my boss relates everything to a story.  When he does this, he catches everybody’s attention and I often find myself repeating the story and remembering the details years later.  I do not like public speaking like my boss does, nor do I like having everybody’s attention on me while trying to explain everything.  This is something that I will need to work on and improve.  What really stood out to me about story telling was the fact that Heavenly Father uses story telling to teach us.  Christ also spoke in parables.  It is obviously a great trait to have.  What also stood out to me was the video by Sharon Mays.  She says that we need to, “either do it or stop ...
